PARIS, TN –Teens, are you looking for something to do when school is out? Would you like to
combine a learning situation with helping others? HCMC is looking for responsible teenagers
age 14 and older with a ‘C’ grade point average or better, who are interested in pursuing a career
in the field of healthcare.
Some of the departments in which Junior Volunteers may work include:
Marketing/Public Relations
Registration
Healthcare Center Business Office
Plumley Rehab
Physical Therapy
Materials Management
Medical Records (Health Information Management)
Quality/Case Management
Outpatient Surgery
3rd Tower Nursing Unit
Imaging
And more
At 5:30 p.m. on Monday, April 1, and Thursday, April 4, those interested are asked to bring a
parent or guardian to Henry County Medical Center’s Classrooms 2 and 3 on the ground floor, to
learn about the program and to sign-up. This meeting accompanied by the parent or guardian
is required to participate in the program. There will be a short presentation on what is
expected of our Junior Volunteers over the summer and applications will be handed out.
Applicants can apply early at http://www.hcmc-tn.org/services/volunteer-services/. In addition to
completing the application, the following are also required to participate in the program:
Tuesday, May 28 – Orientation in HCMC classrooms 2 and 3 at 9 a.m.
1. Have all paperwork completed and ready to be handed in including three references other
than family. Parent/guardian must also sign a release form.
2. Be prepared to receive the TB skin test and have photos made for the badges to be worn
while volunteering.
3. Volunteers will be required to participate in an in-service to explain safety rules and dress
codes as well as expectations of teens while on the job.
4. Tour the hospital.
Thursday, May 30, return to the HCMC Marketing Office between 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
to have the TB skin test read, pick up your badge, uniform shirts and schedules for the two
summer months of June and July.
The application contains a section to select the dates that the teen can work from 8 a.m. until
4:30 p.m. weekdays only. If he or she can work four hours in the morning on Tuesdays, for
example, that is the way we will try to schedule the hours. Teens will also need to tell us what
dates they’ve scheduled a vacation, Bible school or band camp, etc. so those dates will not be
scheduled. Teens can only work in the departments which request a volunteer for the summer.
The experience teaches teens how to work within a healthcare organization and take
responsibility for his or her own actions. Teens (not parents) will call in to their departments to
let them know if they cannot work on any given day. The summer volunteer program should be
viewed just like a work situation in the adult world.
