Dresden, Tenn.–Weakley County Sheriff’s Captain Randall McGowan has issued a warning about a current scam.
He said residents of Weakley County are being flooded with phone calls claiming to be from the Social Security office. The caller tells you that there is some sort of incident happening in Texas involving either their social security number, a car rented in their name or something similar. McGowan said the caller claims that illegal narcotics are involved and you are asked to forward money to clear up the incident.
“These calls are all scams,” he said. “Do not send any money to anyone you don’t know. Do not give out your social security number or date of birth on the phone to someone who calls you.”
