Mayfield, Ky.—A Graves County man was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison on multiple charges of rape involving a young girl following a jury trial this week. According to Commonwealth Attorney Richie Kemp, the jury had recommended he be sentenced to 40 years.
David Sims III of Symsonia was found guilty of six counts of rape and two counts of sodomy involving a girl beginning when she was nine years old. On January 26, 2018, the victim, who was then 16, reported being sexually abused by Sims.
According to a press release from Kemp’s office, Graves Co. Sheriff’s Detective Brook Amberg responded and interviewed the victim and others close to her. She arrested Sims the same day.
Prosecutors including Kemp were Assistant Commonwealth Attorney John J. Beasley II. He said Detective Jerry Gore also played a vital role in securing the convictions.
