McMillan Joins 1,000-Career Point Club

By Mike Hutchens, UC Schools Communications Director

Union City, Tenn.–The Union City boys returned home from Memphis with two wins and a personal milestone.
UC made it back-to-back victories in the More Than Basketball Tournament at Harding Academy and saw junior guard Ben McMillan net his 1,000th career point in a 54-44 triumph over Westwood Saturday morning.
The Tornadoes, who placed fifth in the event, will enter a brief holiday break now, sporting an 8-3 record. UC will leave on Christmas Day for play the following day in the Wayne Gandy Christmas Tournament at Haines City, Fla.
Union City’s girls also will go into Christmas time feeling good, having knocked off Humboldt 61-43 Saturday in the Gibson County Classic.
The Twister girls improved to 7-3 with their second double-digit triumph in two days in the classic.
Like their boys’ counterparts, the Lady Tornadoes won’t rest long before getting back into action Dec. 27 at the Farmer’s National Bank Holiday Classic at Bowling Green, Ky.

McMillan, who scored 54 points in three tourney games, joined the 1,000-Point Club at UCHS with his Saturday effort.
The junior sharpshooter – Union City’s leading scorer on the season — had 17 points to lead a trio of Purple and Gold scorers Saturday.
Kaler Bobo knocked down three 3-pointers and finished with 11 markers, while Nick Sanders was steady with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Neil Brown was a factor inside, too, pulling down a dozen rebounds while also blocking four shots.
Union City led by as many as 17 points with three minutes left in the fourth quarter.
The Twisters outscored the Memphis team 12-3 in a pivotal third stanza, holding them without a field goal during that eight-minute span.
UC shot 61 percent (11-of-18) from 2-point range and made six 3-pointers.

The Lady Tornadoes, who won by 21 over McKenzie in their first game at Dyer, cruised again on Saturday vs. the H’boldt girls.
The threesome of Amari Bonds (22), Kyndall Davis (18) and Jada Williams (13) again shouldered much of the scoring load, combining for 53 of Union City’s points.
Bonds drained four triples and had 10 of her game-high total in the fourth quarter when UC outscored the Lady Vikings 21-14 to officially pull away.
Davis did nearly all of her damage in the final three frames, while Williams was steady throughout.
Union City led 12-6 after one and had built a double-figure lead at 28-18 at the half.
It was 40-29 with three periods in the books.
