Update: State Fire Marshal Investigating Restaurant Fire

By Shannon McFarlin News Director
Union City, Tenn.–The investigation into the early Sunday morning fire that destroyed the Old West Steakhouse in Union City has been turned over to the State Fire Marshal’s office.
Union City Fire Captain Karl Ullrich told WENK/WTPR said the first call about the fire came in to dispatch at 1:54 a.m. and when the first unit arrived at 1:59 a.m., the restaurant was fully involved in fire. “Flames were visible and it was well involved,” Ullrich said.
With the building being “heavily damaged and unsafe to enter”, Ullrich said, much of the work by firefighters was conducted from the top of the building, utilizing ladder trucks.
Automatic mutual aid was received from the South Fulton and Rives Fire Departments, with aid also provided by the Martin Fire Department which brought their ladder truck.
Firefighters stayed on the scene until noon, Ullrich said.
