Dozens Of Animals Seized From Mayfield Home

Mayfield, Ky.–The Graves County Sheriff’s Office charged one person Monday afternoon on 38 counts of animal cruelty. The animals –34 dogs and four cats–were seized and the local animal shelter took charge of their care.
Shelter officials are asking for donations and foster homes to help with the care of the animals.

According to the press release issued by the Graves Co. Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began as a welfare check on an individual that lived at a Mayfield residence located at 335 Boone Street in Mayfield.
While conducting the welfare check, Det. Brooke Amberg and Sheriff Jon Hayden discovered 34 dogs and four cats inside the home. Many of the animals were malnourished and ill. Some were located in very small cages.
The conditions of the home were such that the dwelling was deemed not habitable by Mayfield City Code Enforcement.
Arrangements for housing was made with the assistance of Adult Protective Services for the four persons that lived at this residence.
The Mayfield Graves County Animal Shelter Volunteers came to the scene and took possession of the dogs and cats. They also received assistance from Graves County Jail Inmate workers in loading the animals.
One person who lived at the home was cited to court.

Sheriff Hayden said, “Please remember to support our local animal shelter who always takes these pets when such things occur. After evaluation and some treatment, hopefully these dogs and cats will be available for adoption. We would like to thank the shelter for their assistance today.”
The shelter issued a statement asking for volunteers and foster homes to help with the situation. They are also asking for donations of Purina Dog Chow, Small Bites dog food, wet dog food, wire dog crates, pee pads, towels, small blankets, metal bowls and gift cards for supplies.
