Rebels set for rematch with West Carroll

The McKenzie Rebels  had a great night against The Hollow Rock Bruceton Central Tigers last night. The Lady Rebels stomped the opposition with a final of 61-26. The Rebel Boys also dominated their game with a final of 83-41.

McKenzie had a special program at  halftime last evening where the Lady Rebels from the 1960 and 1963 teams were recognized. These two teams participated in the largest stage in Tennessee high school athletics. This season marks the 60th and 57th anniversary of the 1960 and 1963 Lady Rebels basketball teams reaching the Tennessee State Tournament.

Coached by Mr. Jack Mays, the 1960 Lady Rebels became the first team in program history to advance to the Tennessee State Tournament, The Lady Rebels finished their season with a record of 14 wins and 7 losses. The Lady rebels finished in 2nd place in both their District and Region tournaments. Members of the 1960 State Tournament team included: Paula Pinson Watkins, Annette Sasser Swartz Lander, Karen Webb Camp, Sally House Brannon, Barbara Cozart Elinor, Judy Burroughs, Betty Blades, Emily Field, Judy Abernathy, Pam Fuchs, and Jeanne Duncan.

The 1963 Lady Rebels basketball team made a return trip to the State Tournament. This team finished with a season record of 20 wins to 6 losses. This team won 1st place in both their District and Region tournaments.The 1963 team was coached by Glenda Coates McAllister. Members of the team included: Barbara Cozart Elinor, Diane Stoner Stafford, Kay Brown, Larenda Bradfield Scarbrough, Pam Collins Bohenek, Francis Regina Pete Russell Taylor, Emily Young Archer, Anne Carol McCaleb, Joyce Moore, Jane Hill, Nancy Bateman, Kay King, Emily Scarbrough, Betsy Dinwiddie, Suzie Cozart, Judy Faust, Judy Drewery, Mary Lou Smith, Charlotte Melton, Vicki Fields, Pam Gerrett, and Patty Gaines.

Join us Friday night at 6pm on 98.9 FM 1440AM for  an action packed night as The MCKenzie Rebels go up against West Carroll once more. West Carroll is 17 wins and 4 losses and the Rebels are 20 wins to 1 loss. West Carroll will be a tough opponent as they are first and second in Region 6 Class A standings.
