Kentucky Man Sought After Attacking, Robbing His Mother

Benton, Ky.–The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office is seeking public assistance in finding a suspect who attacked his mother, stole a large sum of money from her and then forced her to drive to several ATMs to withdraw more money.

Matthew Clay Moss of Daffenville, Ky., is being sought on charges of kidnapping with serious physical injury, assault, robbery, criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a minor.

He is believed to be armed and dangerous and has also made threats to law enforcement.

The incident began at approximately 6:30am, April 11,  when he reportedly broke into his mother’s vehicle and stole an undisclosed large sum of money.

According to the press release, when confronted, a physical altercation took place and Moss forced his mother into the vehicle. He then drove her to several different ATM’s eventually obtaining another undisclosed amount of money, while doing so a struggle ensued further injuring his mother.


According to the press release, during this incident, Matthew’s 7-year-old child was left unattended in Matthew’s mother’s residence. Upon return to the residence, Matthew gathered a few belongings and fled the residence just before 8:30 am. 911 was called immediately after. Deputies responded to the residence. The mother was transported to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. The entire area was canvassed but he was not found.


Deputies said it is believed that he may be in the Marshall Co. or McCracken County area.

According to the press release, he has made direct threats to Law Enforcement as well. Moss is believed to be armed and dangerous. The public is encouraged to not approach Moss due in part to his violent tendencies and threats he has made to Law Enforcement.

The public is asked to report any information of Matthew Clay Moss’s whereabouts.


Matthew Moss is wanted for two Misdemeanor warrants from Hardin County.
Matthew Moss is wanted for the following charges in Marshall County from this incident:
Robbery 2nd degree
Assault 2nd degree – Domestic Violence
Kidnapping (With Serious Physical Injury)
Criminal Mischief 3rd degree
Endangering the Welfare of a Minor
