Paris Commission Recognizes Elizondo, Watson

Paris, Tenn.—At a routine meeting of the Paris City Commission Thursday night, commissioners recognized the pending retirement of Paris Police Chief Chuck Elizondo and the pending elevation of Captain Ricky Watson to that position.

Both Elizondo and Watson were on hand for the meeting and were congratulated by commissioners. Chief Elizondo will be retiring effective in December and prior to that, Watson was appointed Interim Assistant to the Chief and will be appointed Chief upon Elizondo’s retirement.

Commissioners approved the recommendation of the planning commission from James Snow who requested his property on Memorial Drive be rezoned from M-1 to R-2H. Planners also recommended rezoning the parcel adjacent and to the east to R-2H, also. Snow wishes to utilize the tracts for residential/agricultural use.

Commissioners also forwarded two other requests to the planning commission: Elizabeth Campbell is seeking right-of-way to an undeveloped piece of her property at 312 Lankford Rd.; and Mike Weatherford is seeking rezoning of property at 203 E. Blythe St. from R-3-H to TRB. He has purchased the property and will be demolishing the dilapidated structure. He desires to utilize the property for parking for his business across the street.

In other business:

Finance Director Traci Shannon reported retail sales tax revenue showed an increase of 1.82 percent compared to April of last year. “We are also ahead fiscal year-to-date by 1.15 percent,” she said.

Six new business licenses were issued in May: West Wood Market, First Folio, Wood’s Glamourous Ridez, Ward’s Wholesale, Whaley Asset Management, Lakeway Energy & Nutrition.
