PARIS, TN – The Henry County School Board’s April meeting highlighted student achievements, facility updates, and upcoming leadership changes within the district. The Board concluded the session by announcing the resignation of District 5 member Jill Coker, effective May 31, as she prepares to move out of the district. The Board expressed its gratitude for her dedicated service to Henry County’s students and staff.

The Board recognized Juniors Channing Michael, Lindsey Anderson, and Senior Braden Thompson for representing the district at the SCOPE Conference at Belmont University. Alongside sponsor Dr. David Webb, the students participated in mock board sessions and debated pressing issues, such as replacing End of Course exams with the ACT. Junior Griffin McDurmon was also acknowledged for his participation.

Additionally, the HCHS Student Ambassadors presented a summary of the year’s Utrust activities. Supported by a $3,700 grant, the ambassadors led initiatives focused on staff and student recognition, fostering a culture of positivity and kindness across the district.

The Facilities and Grounds Committee announced new guidelines for the Wall of Excellence, a dedicated space to honor past educators and community contributors.

Doug Summers will receive a plaque at an upcoming baseball game for his dedication to youth sports and the new baseball field.

John T. Hinson, Jr. will be formally recognized at a future system-wide meeting for his long-standing impact on the district.

Current maintenance updates include the successful reopening of the Lakewood Greenhouse and ongoing repairs to ice-damaged gutters across several campuses.

Summer Learning: Programs for rising grades K–9 will be hosted at Harrelson Elementary, while Henry County High School will host credit recovery for rising grades 10–12.

New Curriculum: CTE Director Betsy Allison introduced Engineering Design I, a new course set to debut next school year.

Enrollment: District enrollment for 2026-27 currently stands at 2,722 students, but this does not account for incoming kindergarten students.
