One Of Happiest Nights Of The Year: When Helping Hand Checks Are Handed Out

annual-hh-26-office-on-aging

By Shannon McFarlin News Director

Paris, Tenn.–It’s always one of the happiest nights of the year: The night that the Henry County Helping Hand Board hands out the checks to organizations that are funded by the annual Radio Auction. The auditorium at the Krider Performing Arts Center was full of smiling faces Monday night.

A whopping total of $504,750 was raised, with checks handed out to 85 organizations in the categories of Health & Well Being, Public Safety, Education, Alleviation of Poverty, Historic Preservation, Cultural Development and Recreation.

2026 Helping Hand President John Etheridge thanked all the volunteers who helped with the Radio Auction this year and who help each year. “It’s the volunteers who make Helping Hand what it is,” he said, noting that other communities have tried to emulate what Henry County does each year without success. Etheridge noted that once again, the Henry County community stepped up and raised thousands of dollars, all of which go back to the community.

This is the 47th annual meeting of the Helping Hand board and Etheridge asked everyone to stand up and be recognized: those who volunteered; those who bought something at the two-month auction or those who made something to be auctioned off.

New Board Members elected were: Tyler Miller, Ashley Russell, Morgan Tosh and Tas Smith.

All of the county’s volunteer fire departments received $10,000 each and the Paris-Henry County Rescue Squad received $19,000.

The Top Ten Donor Organizations were: First United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church, the Pleasant Hill community, Security Bank & Trust, Central Point community, Cottage Grove community, Center community, Tennessee Valley Community Church, Holy Cross Catholic Church and Buchanan community. Their representatives received plaques.
